Thunderbirds,
It is hard to believe this is the last week with our seniors! We are extremely excited to celebrate prom tonight and all the other upcoming events with our students and their families! We held our first senior field day on Friday. Our students had a great time! Check out our school blog for some pictures. This is a longer email but has important information. Please read.
As the school year comes to an end, please remember that the last day of school is June 17th and all family vacations should start after your child has concluded their school year on that date.
We are excited for our senior class that will conclude their senior year this Thursday. Please remember that seniors who are disciplined or suspended may lose the privilege to attend the end of year festivities that we have worked so hard to plan for them – this includes, prom, senior trip, or commencement. In more serious situations, the law is involved. We want our seniors to have fun- in and out of school -without anyone getting hurt or breaking rules/laws. Please talk to your senior about this because we will continue to enforce the Student Code of Conduct. We want all our seniors to end their time at Edsel on a positive note and finish strong!
Memorial Day Ceremony:
Edsel Ford High School will hold its ceremony on Thursday, May 26, starting at 7:50 a.m. in the school auditorium. Mayor Abdullah Hammoud, Superintendent Glenn Maleyko, school board members and others will participate in the event, the longest active Memorial Day celebration in the district. Lisa Lark will again lead the school’s Rose Ceremony honoring the 23 Edsel Ford graduates who gave their lives during the Vietnam War. A color guard from the James Huard 267 Post will present and retire the colors during the ceremony.
Senior Caps/Gowns and Clap Out:
On the seniors’ last day, May 26, they will be able to pick up their caps and gowns (5th hour). After that we do our traditional senior clap out (6th hour). Seniors will go through the Edsel halls one last time and be clapped out by staff and students. Students will exit the building after that.
Edsel Honors Night:
Seniors will be honored on June 1st at 6PM in the auditorium (seniors must arrive by 5PM). Honors rehearsal on June 1st at 8:30AM. Students who are invited to the honors night have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher. Two tickets have been mailed and should arrive at your home before the event. We look forward to honoring our seniors and their families who have worked so hard to achieve such great accomplishments. Students will receive their honor cords during this event.
Senior Trip:
The Class of 2022 Parents are organizing a class trip to Cedar Point instead of the traditional senior party. The senior trip will be held on June 11th. This is parent organized and led. Tickets will be sold during lunch this week only. The trip costs students only $20! This includes food, drink, shirts and transportation. Students must submit a permission slip. Permission slips were passed out on Friday during the students’ Language Arts class.
