Edsel Ford High School

Message to Parents

Thunderbirds,

In light of unfortunate recent events, we understand that many of our students and families are having difficult conversations about school shootings. This also causes many to have mixed emotions or feeling uneasy. Our goal is to ensure that all of our students and staff are fully supported and know that their school is a safe place. Today we had a moment of silence during the first hour to honor those precious lives lost in Oxford. We stand in solidarity with the Oxford community. Also today, some of our students wanted to honor the victims  peacefully by walking out of class. As a school we never encourage students to walk out during instructional time. However, we also want to respect our students’ right to express themselves.

Our students were highly respectful, calm, and supportive of one another. They were outside of the building for approximately 10-15 minutes and took a moment of silence. Our administration and support staff were present outside with the students. We appreciate the intentions of our students to memorialize  those who were victims of tragedy in Oxford.

Please be reassured that we take the safety of our students as high priority at Edsel Ford. We have our counselors and social workers at hand and accessible to all students. In addition, we have a comprehensive plan in place and are currently reviewing all safety measures.

Always feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.
