Dear Edsel Ford Parents and Guardians,
I would like to share some information with you in regards to upcoming events and issues. We thank you for all your patience and understanding.
SAT TESTING THIS WEEK: On Wednesday, October 14th our 12th grade students (Last year”s Juniors) will be taking the SAT. Only students who chose to opt in are scheduled to take the test. If you have any questions please contact your students counselor. Students will test approximately from 8:10 am-1:10 pm. Specific SAT testing information has been sent out to students that signed up and will get sent again early this week. ON SAT TEST DAY, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 14th ALL NON-TESTERS WILL USE THIS DAY AS A CATCH UP DAY FOR WORK THAT HAS BEEN PREVIOUSLY ASSIGNED. THERE WILL BE NO ASYNCHRONOUS WORK ASSIGNED FOR THIS DAY BY TEACHERS.
VACATIONS: Recently, we have received a handful of requests for students who are going on vacation (for weeks, even months) during October and November. Some have implied they will not have technology available as well- meaning they cannot attend school. I just want to remind any students or parents considering this- any class sessions or assignments missed count toward truancy and the audit policy. If students are marked absent enough times they will receive reduced or no credit- which means the class will have to be made up during night school or summer school in order to graduate on time. I would caution any students going on vacation as the Board of Education is considering options for a return to school at Monday night’s Board Meeting. Depending on what we learn – we could also be looking at some type of face to face return as well. We expect specific details following this meeting.
STUDENTS MISSING CLASS FOR WORK: Recently, we have also had students choosing to miss their “Live Synchronous Class Periods” because they are going to work. This will also result in any class sessions or assignments missed count toward truancy and the audit policy. If students are marked absent enough times they will receive reduced or no credit- which means the class will have to be made up during night school or summer school in order to graduate on time as mentioned above.
SCHOOLOGY PARENT UPDATE: As of Wednesday I am told that the district sent an email to every parent with their login information to Schoology. Parents go to a different URL than students. – Parents will go to https://app.schoology.com *
The directions were: Once the parents login in, they should change their password. (Their user name will be the same as their Parent Connect user name with a P before the number. Thus, if their Parent Connect user name is 1234567, their Schoology user name will be p1234567).
There is a post with information for parents on the Home Learning Hub (including a translated version of the email).
*The Parent URL sent in the email will also have the school code embedded at the end of the URL. So it will actually be https://app.schoology.com/login?school=xxxxxxxxx (where the x’s are numbers representing the school code).
As always- tech support is available for parents and students at 313-827-8400.
Very lengthy I know – but necessary-
Have a great week!!! We will provide updates on upcoming Homecoming Events soon!!!
All my best Thunderbirds!
