Edsel Ford High School

Response to Bullying Initiative Policy Prohibiting Weapons

Dear Students and Parents,

The Superintendent and Board of Education along with the entire staff of the Dearborn Public Schools work hard to ensure that all of our schools are safe. We have implemented our Response to Bullying initiative to protect students from bullying behavior and have adopted a strong policy prohibiting weapons in our schools.

The Board of Education prohibits students from possessing, storing, making, or using a weapon at school, on school property, on school buses, or on the way to or from school. The term “weapon” means any object which, in the manner in which it is used, is intended to be used, or is represented, is capable of inflicting serious bodily harm or property damage, as well as endangering the health and safety of persons. Weapons include, but are not limited to, firearms, guns of any type whatsoever, including soft air and gas-powered guns (whether loaded or unloaded), knives, razors, clubs, electric weapons, metallic knuckles, martial arts weapons, ammunition, and explosives.

This policy also prohibits look-alike items like toy guns, false fire alarms, bomb threats, or intentional calls to falsely report a dangerous condition. The consequences for bringing a toy gun to school are the same as bringing a real gun to school—possible expulsion and referral to the police.

Thank you for helping us to keep Dearborn Schools safe.

Sincerely,

Building Principal
