Students of Robert Doyle, Director of Choral Activities and Theatre at EdselFordHigh School and longtime Instructor of Music at AlbionCollege, successfully competed in the Great Lakes Regional NATS Competition held last Saturday at WesternMichiganUniversity. NATS, or the National Association of Teachers of Singing, is an organization comprised primarily of private and college voice instructors and their auditions are intended to foster the art of singing. Categories range from High School through Advanced (Graduate) Levels in both Classical and Musical Theatre styles.
Singers competed against each other from Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois and Ontario, Canada. Mr. Doyle is a former Michigan District Governor for the organization, and his students and their accomplishments included:
EFHS Junior Benjamin Timpf, 3rd Place HS Men
EFHS Senior Clare Russell, Honorable Mention HS Women
Walled Lake Senior Allie McMellen, 3rd Place HS Musical Theatre
Also of note, Brittania Talori, graduate of DHS and a student of Mr. Doyle (currently studying at Wayne State University with Mr. Emory Stephens) placed First in the Advanced (Graduate) Singers category for the second year in a row. In addition, Mr. Doyle’s current students were accompanied by the 2013 recipient of the Dearborn Mayor’s Arts Award for Artist Performer, the incomparable Linda Lukens.
