Dear Parents/Guardians
The scheduling season is upon us. The course selection process includes decisions that should carefully be made to best prepare your son or daughter for their post-secondary education and career. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have transitioned our scheduling to an online platform. We understand that this process may seem overwhelming at times. We are here to support you and your child in making informed decisions.
The Class of 2023 will be the first class at Edsel Ford High School to select a career academy. We are asking them to choose one of the following career academies: Academy of Business and Hospitality, Academy of Health Sciences, Academy of Human Services, Academy of Industry, Technology & Innovation. The mission of the career academies is to prepare every student for post-secondary success in college and/or career by collaborating with industry, post-secondary and community partners to ensure all students engage in a program of study that provides a comprehensive and career focused curriculum. At Edsel, our goal is to provide students with an AWARENESS of their options and a PURPOSE for their education through this academy model. Edsel Ford’s Academy lead teacher is Ms. Summer El-Mubarak. During the 2019-2020 school year, the class of 2023 engaged in a variety of informational activities designed to prepare them for their entry into a career academy. These activities included taking the YouScience assessment that matches students interests and aptitudes with career options. Students engaged in career exploration lessons during T-Time throughout the school year. Students were exposed to both post secondary careers and their elective class options through a Career Day along with a school wide curriculum fair. Unfortunately, a number of other informational meetings and assemblies, for both students and parents, were cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We plan on offering these presentations upon our return to school.
The academy your child chooses should influence their courses they select. Students will be given the opportunity to review their academy choice in the future. All course selections will be made online thus allowing you to enter the course requests with your son or daughter at home. A Google scheduling form was sent to your student’s school account. The Google scheduling form includes a scheduling presentation, a presentation on the Academies of Dearborn at Edsel Ford, a link to your student’s YouScience account, and a presentation on the Michael Berry Career Center. The links are embedded in this letter. Please review with your child.
