Student Handbook and Curriculum GuideDear Parent/Guardian: On behalf of the staff, I extend this WELCOME to you to become one of the family at Edsel Ford High School. One of the most important experiences your son/daughter will have in the next four years is the education he/she will receive while attending Edsel Ford High School. Our staff is dedicated to providing a well-rounded education which not only builds upon your son/daughter's academic skills, but also strives to build proper character within our students. As a parent/guardian, you will have an important responsibility to see that this experience is a meaningful one. In order to assist you, we have compiled this planner to explain the services and activities offered to student and parents. This handbook also contains an extensive curriculum guide which explains graduation requirements and shows the array of courses offered at Edsel Ford High School. We hope you will encourage your son/daughter to become actively involved in all aspects of our high school program. Dear Student: WELCOME TO EDSEL FORD HIGH SCHOOL. You are beginning one of the most trying but meaningful experiences in your lifetime. Though it is understandably difficult to impress upon you at this time, your high school experiences will become a focus of memories for decades after you graduate. It is my hope that you will make the most of your high school experience by becoming actively involved in all aspects of Edsel Ford High School. The information contained in this planner will make you aware of what your high school has to offer. Please read it carefully. Dodd Principal For Dearborn Public Schools Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 Title IX of the Education Amendment Act of 1972 Title II of the Americans with Disability Act of 1990 Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 Age Discrimination Act of 1975 The person who believes s/he has a valid basis for grievance shall discuss the grievance informally and on a verbal basis with the local Civil Rights Coordinator, who shall in turn investigate the complaint and reply with an answer to the complainant. S/He may initiate formal procedures according to the following steps: Step 1: A written statement of the grievance signed by the complainant shall be submitted to the local Civil Rights Coordinator within five (5) business days of receipt of answers to the informal complaint. The Coordinator shall further investigate the matters of grievance and reply in writing to the complainant within five (5) business days. Step 2: If the complainant wishes to appeal the decision of the local Civil rights Coordinator, s/he may submit a signed statement of appeal to the Superintendent of Schools or Designee within five (5) business days after receipt of the Coordinator’s response. The Superintendent or Designee Shall meet with all parties involved, formulate a conclusion, and respond in writing to the complainant within ten (10) business days. Step 3: If the complainant remains unsatisfied, s/he may appeal through a signed written statement to the Board of Education within five (5) business days of receipt of the Superintendent’s or Designee’s response in Step 2. In an attempt to resolve the grievance, the Board of Education shall meet with the concerned parties and their representatives within forty (40) days of the receipt of such an appeal. A copy of the Board’s disposition of the appeal shall be sent to each concerned party within ten (10) business days of this meeting. Step 4: If at this point the grievance has not been satisfactorily settled, further appeal may be made to the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights, 600 Superior Avenue, Room 750, Cleveland, OH 44114. Inquiries concerning the nondiscriminatory policy may be directed to Director, Office for Civil Rights, Department of Education, Washington, D.C. 20201. The district’s Coordinator, on request, will provide a copy of the district’s grievance procedure and investigate all complaints in accordance with this procedure. A copy of each of the Acts and the regulations on which this notice is based, may be found in the district Coordinator’s office.
